To whomever can lend an ear, or hand to help,

On August 6th a young man named Gary Baisley, 23 years of age, was involved in a very serious swimming accident. He was pulled out of the water in cardiac arrest, his scared friends, and an off duty Stony Point Police Officer not knowing what to do began CPR, saving his life. In addition to his lungs being collapsed and infected with trapped water, his neck was broken shattering his C-5 and badly breaking his C-6 vertebrae. He was in the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY for 2 ВЅ weeks where he fought to stay alive through many surgeries. The day after the accident doctors informed us that he was in complete organ failure and if he survived at all he would be a quadriplegic at best.
Almost 7 weeks later and Gary is making them eat every word of that prognosis. He has since been moved into Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Center in West Haverstraw, NY and can move his arms, wrists and is working on trying to breathe on his own. He is stubborn and a fighter and is determined to get his body working again. He knows he has a long road ahead of him and tries to be as positive as possible.
I have begun plans for a fundraising event to help out with costs that are building up for the Gannon-Baisley family. The event is at The Hudson Water Club on October 26th, 2013 and is a $100 a person which includes dinner, passed hor dourves, live music, as well as raffles and auctions. All proceeds will go directly to Gary and his recovery.
Gary Baisley has been a volunteer firefighter since the age of 16, he has worked at the Haverstraw Marina for the past 9 years, O'Malley's in Nyack for 5, and The Peppermill in Congers for 3. He has held up all his jobs at this time as well as his family and friends. Gary is always there when you need help and willing to lend a hand. It's our turn, as his friends, community and good citizens to support him now in his greatest struggle. If you're able and willing to attend this event please do. Our hope is Gary will be well enough to leave the hospital and attend the event, nothing would be more uplifting than seeing his friends and community coming together in his honor. If you cannot attend but would like to donate a basket or anything for the auctions and raffles then bless you. Any company that provides a donation will be featured in the Benefit's Program, to be dispersed and mailed.

The local business have been offering plenty of assistance, it really shows the power of community.

Big Corporations are unwilling to help because running a fundraiser for a single person cant not provide a tax break for themselves!
(except Pepsi whom is the only Big Company emailed that was willing to send something for Gary himself).

Please contact me with any further questions, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,
Robyn Feick
