On gas engines 370ph, Carver 396

Running 1800-2000rmp, what would be your miles per gallon be? and also Miles per hour?Given average weight and 3 people on board.

Is the a better rmp range to maximize gas efficiently

We are taking a trip from South Portland, ME to Annapolis, MD. and are trying to estimate the fuel cost.

If you're looking for best fuel economy, do not exceed hull speed which will be around 8 - 8-1/4 knots and that is speed over water not GPS speed. That will give you good economy. Anymore than that and mileage will suffer. Slow down a little more and your mpg will be slightly better.
I'm guessing at that speed you will get about 1 mpg.

Anyway, no matter what you do, you are looking at some major $$$ to make that trip.

Antiqua,
If you plan on running those engines at 1800-2000 rpms you will be doing more harm than saving fuel. You will be lugging the engines which are not good. Plan on running the engines at the normal operating cruise speed. If they are 454's or the newer 8.1's, plan on burning 28-32 gallons an hour. Your boat weighs 29,000 lbs.

Calculate the hours of run time by the burn rate. If it takes you 8 hours to get to your destination and you burn 30gls an hour, you will use approx 240gls of fuel.

It will not be cheap.

I've been running my 454's in the 1700-1800 RPM range for almost 6 years now. They still run good and I saved a couple thousand $$$ in fuel along the way.
