It seems like my VP V8 engine is loosing coolant. Still have more checking to do. I was down 2.5 gallons of coolant although I cannot be sure prior owner was doing all the maint needed.
I am thinking the closed system cooling is going into the sea water part of my heat exchanger and then the coolant is low and exhaust manifold overheats.
I have been chasing this for a month trying to figure it out.
From IR temp gun the exhaust elbow is normal temp, engine coolant shows normal temp but exhaust manifold gets to 220F and I get a red triangle alarm.
So my question is how long to heat exchangers last when boating in salt water and do you get them tester and repaired or by that time just replace as too much corrosion and not worth repairing.
MrCool sells aftermarket ones that are a lots better price than one from Volvo Penta.
