Hello, I was intersted in purchasing a Honda EU2000 generator to use with my 2008 Sundancer 240. I am completely new to this. I am learning about making sure the generator puts out enough watts to support to appliances on the boat. watts ='s amps x volts.
My question is if my shore power line with the Sundancer is a 120v/30amp shore power line, does that dictate that i need a generator with a minimun 3600 watt capability? Any suggestions , information, or experience with generators would be great. THANKS.

Jeff

If you wish to run all your electrical items at once then a 3600w+ genny would be needed. Most people are willing to turn things on and off in order to use a smaller and more efficient generator like the 2000.

Do you really need the hot water heater on with the air conditioning while brewing a pot of coffee and making some popcorn in the microwave or can you spread things out a little. How you answer that question will determine which generator rating you can get away with.

I'd look at the biggest two users of power and determine if I need to run them both at the same time. In other words, will I be using the electric range AND the air conditioner (if so equipped)? Can I do without one or the other? The other draw that people fail to think about is the battery charger. You can switch it off at the main panel during peak loads.

The Honda is so common that I'd guess one of your friends or neighbors has one. Ask him to bring it over while it's parked on the trailer (oops! I trailer so I often forget people moore them!) or invite him out for a day on the boat. Tell him you're considering one and you want to see if it has enough capacity. I'm sure he'd oblige and you can give it a test run before you buy it. The other option is the 2400 watt Yamaha. Another very nice unit, but with slightly more capacity and similar features.
