I have a 1983 355 aft Sea Ray with a mcck Onan 6.5 having problem getting spark new plugs and wires points cleaned and gapped
do not have 12v to coil and before that no voltage to resister. My under standing is that 12volts should be constant to the resister which I believe is fed from relay.
I have check low oil pressure switch I have continuity through the switch but not sure if switch should be open or closed to start.
Help would be appreciated on this matter.
Regards
Dave

Quick question…does the motor turn over but just won’t start or does it not do anything?

Motor turns over won't start no power to coil I am checking power sources will try to find out why no power

Bypass (jump) the low oil cutoff switch. I believe it should be closed to send power to the coil. Also see if you have a high temperature cutoff and bypass that. Heck - bypass everything and run a jumper to the coil....if it starts, trace the wire backwards.

I'll throw this out there FWIW....do you have enough gas in the tank? I used to have a boat and we needed at least a 1/3 tank of gas in order to run it. The fuel pick up tube was several inches shorter than the main pick up and as soon as the tank went below 1/3 full, no gas to genset.

Good call. I've seen this baffle owners before..... It's the little things that trick you.

Thanks.
Another question to the OP....is this a new problem? Did the genset work before and suddenly stopped? Any changes between when it work and when it stopped? A little more history might help.

The safety switches are bypassed during start up so it should fire up until the switch is released. If it doesn’t fire up at all, it’s not the safety switches
