are the kohlers a 2600 rpm genni?

do all searays 270 1998 2001 come with only a kolher?
can i get others?
seems like only the 1997 -2001 have kohlers
are the kolhers quiet?
what are your impressions from those who have them
are they a 4k watt on a 270 280 290 ?

I had an old Kohler 4KW that was 3600 rpm. The new ones are also 3600 rpm. It was a pretty good generator, but it was starting to burn some oil. So we got an 1800 rpm generator cause it is a lot quieter.

My 2000 290 had a 5kw Kohler that ran at 3600rpms, other than a few fouled spark plugs, never had an issue with the generator. Seems like the small and large SeaRays had Kohlers and the mid size cruisers (310, 340) had Westerbeke during that time. None had sound sheilds, mine was pretty quiet, you could hear it running, but no louder than the AC compressor.

My old Kohler was not quiet at all, but it didn't have a sound shield on it.

i dont' think there is such an animal as a 2600 rpm genny, it's either 1800 or 3600, if you want 60Hz power. I forgot the RPM of 50Hz gennies, i think it's 1500 and 3000...

there is no way that a 3600 genny can be as quiet as an 1800... unless they're installed differently and have better soundproofing. I never understood why most Kohlers are 3600 and why builders insist on using them!

They insist on using them because they are cheaper.
It probably cost more to design, build and install soundproofing, and it
takes up more room.
Westerbeke makes 2200 rpm generator.
It can be done because it is not rigid mounted. It is belt driven.
They can use the correct pulley sizes to get the generator RPM to 1800 or 3600.
Most marine and recreational generators are 3600 rpm(gas drivers), and a few 1800 rpm.
There are a whole lot more different speed drivers on commercial generators,
it all depends on the number of poles in the generator end.
