I am in the process of looking at used cruisers, 2000 to 2003, in the 26'-27' range. The out the door price I am aiming for is $35-$37K with tax included. Tomorrow I am looking at Rinkers, Maxums, and Bays. My very experienced boat buying neighbor told me to offer 40% off the asking price at the marinas, which I felt was a little high, and almost insulting. Can you all give me a general starting point for offers? What is the usual mark-up on the boats when the marina trys to sell them? I realize every marina and boat sale is different, but if you could steer me in the right direction with general knowledge, and your own experiences, this would ease my worries about making super-low ball offers.
