Need some input on the best GPS chartplotter choice based on my boating area.
Currently have a Crownline 250CR slipped on the Mississippi River. Our goal is to stay on the river for a number of years getting ready for the Great Loop.
I would like a GPS chartplotter to map anchorage locations along the river so I know the best way to come into a cove or slough without risk of damage to the boat or lower unit. I like the idea of having sonar (sounder?) capability.
My first choice is the Garmin 178C w the Single frequency transducer. I've seen these at the boat shows and they seem pretty easy to learn.
Does anyone know if it is possible to install this unit on our little Starcraft which has an outboard so we can go explore the various areas on the river we would like to anchor the big boat at during the summer? Would additional equipment need to be purchased in order to move the unti from one boat to the other.
Sorry for the length.
