GPS UNIT , marine, car, portable?

[hamine]

Greetings,

I have a very simple question: can a marine GPS unit be used for other purposes such as street maping etc? and also can a car GPS be used for marine purposes? I am in the market for a unit, and I want to spend my money wisely.

Any advice and also any recommendation on specific units is appreciated.

Thanks, as always!

hamine, you didn't complete your profile so we don't know where you boat or what size boat you have. But if you are a serious boater on the coast, get a marine GPS and leave it on the boat. Otherwise, a dual purpose GPS may work for you.
