Hi All,

I need some help, and a sanity check, on the head refit I am in the midst of. I picked up a 1967 Paceship Eastwind (25' sail) last fall. The original head was still installed and no longer functions. I was able to get a hold of a new head and I started the refit this past weekend.

There are a couple of issues that I need to deal with. First off, both the raw water in and the discharge out seacocks are hopelessly stuck in the open position. On the raw water in side, I was able to remove the brass nipple the previous onwer had to attach the hose to. The set up was thru hull - seacock - brass elbow - brass nipple - hose. I replaced the nipple with a new male-male threaded nipple (with high pressure thread sealant), and then attached a brass ball valve. I figured I would then have a manor to shut off the water if needed. On the other side of the valve, I installed a brass barbed fitting to attach the hose to with two hose clamps. The hose will then run to the pump unit on the head, thru a vented loop, and then to the bowl. Sound reasonable?

On the discharge side, I don't ever anticipate pumping directly over the side as we will be using the boat 100% of the time in Boston Harbor and near to shore. I am installing a small holding tank. My current plan is to run from the head discharge, thru a 1 1/2" vented loop, to a Y valve, then to the seacock and the tank. Since the seacock is stuck open, the y valve is going to be keeping out the ocean. Do you think I should just plug the seacock with a wooden plug instead? Also, what is the recomendation for an economical hose for the discharge end?

Thanks!
Cris
