OUr boat has a fiberglass holding tank. The outlet fitting is mounted low on one end and is basically a threaded bronze floor flange which is screwed to the side of the tank. I'm repairing the system and trying to address an odor problem.

The flange was set in a bed of white sealant. I have cleaned the side of the tank and the face of the flange, but I'm wondering what to re-bed it in. Would polysulfide sealant be the right thing or would I be better off creating some type of gasket? Neither surface is perfectly flat, but they are close.

Coming off that flange was a "T" facing up with the macerator mounted there. An additional tee is then connected to that. One side of that tee goes up to the deck fitting for pumpout. The other side goes to a manual "Gusher" type pump. I can't see any reason that I would want to manually pump the tank out and I rarely use the macerator. I've decided to replace the burned out macerator and to eliminate the 2nd tee. This will leave two ways to evacuate the tank, with the macerator when at sea or a pumpout station.

Have I forgotten anything or does anybody see anything wroing with this approach? I will also be installing a "Sweet Tank" system so that I'm no longer dependent on any additives to maintain a good smelling tank.
