Hotel recommendations in Ft. Lauderdale?

The Admiral and I are thinking of a weekend in Ft. Lauderdale around President's Day weekend and would like to hear recommendations for a hotel with marina/beach/ICW views. We've never been to Lauderdale, but have heard of Bahia Mar [see boat name]. We'll rent a car and may try to visit the Miami Boat Show, but are more interested in a vacation. Also recommendations for restaurants/bars/sites-to-see and/or places or areas to avoid would be appreciated.
