Do I need one or two gasoline fume detector sensors in the engine compartment of my 1986 3607. The present unit is about twenty years old and the alarm goes off when I can smell not a hint of gas odor. Time to replace it.
Thanks,
Jimmy

I have 1 sensor mounted on the forward engine room wall that is tied into the blowers. Mine was sending false alarms also ('82 3607) and it was only 4 years old. I replaced the sensor and the problem went away. I suspect I accidentally saturated it during an overzealous cleaning (I understand they can be sensitive to getting wet). I mounted it just above the top of the stringers to keep it dry and effective at doing its job.

I think you are supposed to replace the sensors every 5 years or so - at least for the Fireboy units.

Thanks guys, I feel safe with one sensor. I'll find out where the old one is when I start pulling the cable from the flybridge(single station model).
