HELP! I have a 1999 Stingray 350 2bbl alpha 1 merc w/ 120 hours with a weird problem. Here is the issue: Took out this year after marina service and spark plug replacement over winter. (no problems just maintenence)didn't run good- cut out at high RPMS. Watched voltage gauge and realized that cut out was associated with low voltage at full throttle use. Checked battery connections and belt tension and all was good.

Figured it was the alternator so I ordered one from George and installed new alternator today and still same problem. Unhooked battery while engine running and it stayed running so I know alternator is functioning but only at max 13 volts.

13 volts at idle. 10-12 volts during 2000-3000 rpm. Seems to dip as RPM increases. Engine dies once in a while during idle and high rpm use.

What the heck could this be? Battery is 3 years old but it started right off this spring and starts good and it did the same thing with battery disconnected and hooked up to a jumper pack.

Any ideas anyone?
