Just changed the impeller on my 7.4L Mercrusier sea water pump and am finishing up my spring prep checklist. Looking forward to turning the engine over in the next day or two, and hear that sound that says "take me to the lake"!!!!
Now that I've got the seawater/fuel pump mounted back on the engine, I'm getting the sinking feeling that I didn't pay close enough attention to the shop manual when putting the pump back together. The picture (Seawater Pump Installation) shows the vanes leaning to the left. If I put the body back on the other way, i.e. the vanes are leaning to the right, shouldn't they turn the proper way when the engine turns over? Could this be a problem?
I change the impeller every two years, and have never had a problem, but I usually pay real close attention to the vane orientation when putting the pump back together.
Thanks,
John
