And differentiates this from a 2 stroke Detroit? ;)

I could be wrong, but I don't think much of anything has changed at that website since it 1st appeared in 2007 except adding a couple videos in 2008. And it doesn't appear marketable engines are available, ...are they?

However, I was quite interested in the 2008 video that demonstrates a cylinder(and/or piston & rod) replacement by 2 techs in about 7 1/2(!) minutes. Pretty slick access setup, even if they don't mention dealing with coolant for instance, which can be time-consuming.

I don't believe the website said Buck only had 5 yrs experience with diesels, only that by 2007 he had put 5 yrs into his engine(s).

I'm more interested in an engine that has a warranty against cylinder replacement than one that can have another popped in quickly. Given all of the extra parts required it'll probably be more expensive than a traditional block and head design. While applicable in large engines, smaller engine economy of scale would have a tough time with this.
 
The replacement reminds me of the old VW air cooled jugs engines.
 
There is nothing really new here - maybe a great application of techniques but I fail to see why anyone here would go with any of these engines.

Good thing entrepreneurs, visionaries and the intellectually curious don't share your attitude. Or nothing new and unconventional would ever get designed, tested and brought to market.

Indeed. So when are we going to get "free valve" diesels?

I'm thinking that technology is much more worthy of development. It will have an affect equal to or better than electronic ignition, and fuel injection.
 
Confusing to me. The objective seems lighter weight and easier rebuilds plus efficiency. Bigger rods and longer stroke mean a stronger and heavier bottom end is needed but I don't see that in the drawings. Two injectors might have benefit with electronic control in smoothing the power stroke allowing higher power per cylinder but it is already pretty high in modern engines.

These ideas seem more in line with large ship engines that our type.
