Just bought a 2006 Silverton 34C. There is a TV cabinet in the port rear of the salon just inside the sliding door. The main electrical panel is just below the TV and access to the inside is easy as the panel tilts forward. I want to install an inverter to run the TV and a video game for the kids as we are out for 3 days most every weekend.

There is a 30 amp DC breaker for bridge electronics that only powers a Raymarine Tridata. I would like to pull power from the back of this breaker as the cables to it are quite large and the Tridata would pull very little.

Ten inches to the side are the AC breakers. There is one at 15 amps for the three salon recepticles that I would like to cut the power from the main AC distribution and connect these three to the inverter.

When done I could turn on the breaker to the bridge electronics and the inverter would be powered up. I could then turn on the salon outlets breaker to use this AC power for the TV or a fan in one of the other outlets. The inverter is a 1,500 watt model and I used a 400 watt model to power the electronic game and the TV so I would not have a large draw.

Problem is determining which of the two cables going to the DC breaker is positive and which is negative. They are both yellow with differing color stripes. Can you tell by which way the breaker throws to the on position? I purchased a digital multimeter but have no clue how to use it even after reading the brief instructions. Next is which wire on the AC breaker is positive and which is common. Again does the direction of the breaker throw give a clue? One side is connected to a small buss bar and I assume this would be the positive side. Lastly, I intend to use a pigtail to plug into the inverter and then PROPERLY splice it to the positive side of the breaker wire. The common tied to a buss bar.

I know there are better ways but this will work till winter when I can have the time and expertise of a distant relative to install a whole boat inverter. Any help and additional questions would be appreciated!
