Ok, so my UK salesmen sends me an email asking if we're ok, are we evacuating as he sees via BBC and to be safe.

So I start writing a reply telling him we are on the North shore of Long island and only the outer banks on the south shore were evacuating. I cant remember how wide the island is where we are to tell him how far away we are so I hit Google Earth to get the distance.

So I start up GE and as I zoom down from the global level I see a Track for Irene
Woe this is great!
So I m zooming and zooming to get to our town and the track is staying in view.

OMG- right now at 0630 the eye will be 6 mile from our house!

Time to ck everything I tied up yesterday and get more fuel for the house Genset

Thanks Andy for the heads up, very cool.

Looking at the track it is going over the most fragile part of the barrier beach between Gilgo and Tobay. If it is rough enough it may breech, that area has already lost too much sand.

Rght now the line looks like Tobay, East Massapequa, Dix Hills, Commack and then Sunken Meadow

Wow interesting web site. My wife has been having 2nd thoughts about not evacuating and has been thinking of going to her sisters in Comack - all the news report she has been watching have ig going through Rockville center- I have not seen them.

Great in line with my boat and house. Please let me keep something!!!!

Heading thru JFK now.
Hope they got some of those planes out of there!

A friend of mine is a continental airplane mechanic in Newark. He said they were flying all the planes out of the area yesterday. Basically if the plane is not in a hangar, they sent it away from the coast. I flew into laguardia last night from Chicago. I never saw so few planes on the ground there. It was spooky.
