My biggest fear, one of my cylinders on my 2000 225 merc optimax has no compression. It will still turn over but the mechanic said shes shot. I have been researching. The engine has been outstanding with no previous problems..figures this would happen. I am not in a position to by new (for all you Yammy owners). My choice is either have a machine shop rebuild w/ 18 month warranty or remanufactured mercury head with a merc 12 month warranty. The machine shop rebuild is about $1500 cheaper but I am more concerned about the results and will pay the extra but really want a comfort level. Just had a 100 hr service so everything else looked good. Suggestions, experience and advice is greatly appreciated.
