Kohler Generator

What is your symptoms to require a change?

The small gas kohlers are know impeller eaters, did you check that first?

Plus when viewing impeller while it's installed can look perfect but one or more blades c/b cracked at base. Gotta pull out to examine.

We have changed the impeller, thermostat and bled the cooling system. Still overheats and shuts down. I can verify the overheating with a heat sensor gun. Mechanic thinks it may be problem with the circulating pump in the heat exchanger. Water flow to the exhaust is good. Any thoughts?

If you have good water flow out, then the circulating pump is suspect

We have now replaced the impeller which had been changed 2 years ago. It was intact but a small crack. Replaced the thermostat and the circulation pump. It is still over heating. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Have you disassembled the heat exchanger itself? Any growth on the tubes will hamper cooling. Have you tried running it without the t'stat? Is it the correct temp?

Lots of variables.

Did you try changing the plugs?

Also anyone know a good source for parts to these generators?

I've used ASAP in the past. You can find them on google as Partfortechs. Prices seem to be competitive with what I could find as a search item. Delivery quick.

The Tstat is located bet the heater exchanger and the manifold. I think the problem here is low on the Antifreeze. Across from the radiator cap there is a plug you must remove to check antifreeze and fill thru the radiator cap til comes out on the other end put plug back and cap after. If you have a little air bubble on that corner circulator pump won't move the antifreeze to get cooled thru the heater exchanger.

I had to pull my heat exchanger and chased out almost 2 impellers worth of vanes that previous owners never chased down. I thought it was going to be touch, but mainly reversed flow through it and counted the vanes as they popped out!

Air lock could cause it not to circulate I know I have read about this in past posts. I will see if I can find something on it.
Being it is against the rules I can't post a link but Google "marine generator air lock" you will find several threads on several forums on the topic.
