KVH TV1 and Dish Network

Well here is the status update.

After 12 plus hours on this problem with over 6 hours on the phone with dish and KVH it turned out to be a bad 6' Coax cable. Replaced it with a brand new 6' Monster RG6 cable and everything worked.

I am using the Legacy East Arc containing the 61.5w 110w and 119w satellites.

I have all the HD channels along with local HD channels on the 61.5 Sat.

The main TV in the salon auto selects the satellite and the Stateroom TV I need to use the iPhone app to change satellites.

Not worth putting in a router and an IP box just to change satellites.

All good now
 
That's good news, where was the cable located? Between the SAT controller and receiver MUX switch?
 
The cable between the TV Hub and the the receiver when you program each receiver separately but hooked up directly to the TV Hub.

Thanks Kevin good to know I hope it wasn't a cable supplied by KVH?
 
I am glad you resolved the issue, Kevin. However, I am confused as to which bird you're getting locals from. 61.5,72.7 & 77 are all eastern arc. 110,119 & 129 are western arc. Are you sure you're getting locals off 61.5?
 
BTW, with 211 receivers you can opt to pay a one time $40 activation fee and turn them into DVRs by adding an external hard drive. The fee covers all receivers on the account. I take the primary drive with all my movies from my house to my boat frequently. If you know basic Linux you can easily back the drives up as well.

I am using the legacy eastern arc which is 61.5 110 and 119.

yes 61.5 has all of the local HD channels

When I first set up I used Dish 500 which was
110 119 and 129, but you cant receive 129 in the north east nor can you receive 72.7 and 77

but in the setup select Legacy Eastern arc and that resolves everything.

You will need to rerun check switch on each reciver
 
KVH seems to have something funky going on. It appears they're the ones that have coined the term "legacy eastern arc" as 61.5 is in the EA and is very, VERY close to 72. 110 and 119 aren't anywhere close to 61.5. If the TV1 can lock on to 61.5 it should easily be able to receive signal from 72. From their own wording:

“Dish Eastern Arc – Legacy” (satellites 61W, 110W, 119W) and the "Dish Western Arc” (satellites 110W, 119W, and 129W). TV1 is not compatible with the "Dish Eastern Arc” (satellites 61W, 72W, 77W)

There is only one "61W" satellite and it is at 61.5 degrees (very close to 72.7 degrees). I'm going to guess KVH has some sort of issue they're trying to hide.
 
The issue may be Dish size meaning the smaller the parabola the wider the 3db down point or the amount of sky the dish is limited to seeing. A larger dish will see less sky (SATs) and have higher gain because it's got a narrower beamwidth.
It's possible there could be some signal overlap between 61.5 and 72.7 but not if they are on different polarization's or the transponders are on different bands Ka vs Ku. I haven't investigated the DISH satellites to say if a combination of these conditions is causing KVH to call them something different then DISH Networks?
 
Dish only uses the EA and WA terms. There is no such thing as "legacy arc" in Dish "lingo". Bill, my little AzTrax dish has no issue tuning in 61.5 or 72.7. Even though they're at slightly different elevations I can usually tune in either just by changing azimuth a few degress.
