http://www.screanews.us/LongIsland/SuffolkFrom.htm NBR but they mention the water a lot...

Funny, someonwe just Emailed me that a few days ago. Having been born in Patchogue and pretty much raised on the GSB and Davis Park in the late 50's and early 60's it really brought back many memories. On the same site was a piece on Davis Park ... Hobby Miller was a friend of my parents and bought their old house when they moved to Louisiana ... his boatyard pictured is just behind the house I grew up in!!

Very relevant to all of us here on LI…. Thanks for the post.

Brad

In there they say "And when you do say the beach, it means Fire Island."
The picture after that, where is that?
I don't recognize the marina.

Kind of a wrap up for us now that we've abdicated NY...but the beach for us always meant Tobay or Gilgo.

It's Davis Park. I guess I kind of recognized it, but, I'm going by the picture title.

I'm looking at the picture and I know what the title says but that doesn't look like the Davis Park I've ever seen.

Sure has been alot of erosion.

Yep its Davis Park, I never go there, so I don't recognize it.
Sure is a big marina. It's so protected, its amazing the boats bounce in there.

Pete, I just read that to my wife and she giggled a little. Really sort of ironic, I tell people here I'm from up North. I'm from Atlanta(actually Forest Park), that's North Ga., but my wife is from down south. she's also from Patchogue (the South Shore) Grew up on Miller St..She got all of 'em.

Small world ... it was a great place to grow up in the 50's and 60's.

I read the LI and Suffok County pieces and both made me homesick. I grew up in Commack in the 60's and spent alot of time in Montauk during the 70's. I have been living in NJ for 20+ years, but I miss the LI ocean beaches. Everyone here raves about the Jersey shore (and I don't mean that sad sack of Soprano wannabe's on TV). In NJ, the sand and surf seem to be the window dressing for the amusements, rides, and clubs.

Stuck in NJ!
