We're thinking of crossing the lake this summer to Lake Charlevoix and then through the lake to Boyne City. We've been to Lake Charlevoix before, but have never ventured out of the marina once we were slipped. We've been told that Boyne City is nice.

We would prefer to anchor out. Are there overnight anchorages in Lake Charlevoix? Is Boyne City a good visit? Any anchorages in that area?

Thanks for your help.

Oyster Bay is a well protected anchorage that has good holding in 7-15 feet of water. It is just beyond Round Lake on the north side of Lake Charlevoix. Boyne City has a nice little marina and great sunsets. Town is walking distance from marina.

I know your preference is to anchor out but if the urge hits you, the Charlevoix City Marina has been totally rebuilt and is a very nice facility now with much more dockage and a very nice boater's lounge and bath facility. It is first rate. It's probably been 20 years since I was to Boyne City so won't offer an opinion on that.

Len,

We stay at the Harbor Club.

This April Mrs and I drove as far south as Frankfort and worked our way back north to see the places by car that we go to by boat.
We drove through East Jordan and Boyne City this spring (harbors not open). Forget East Jordan, it is a ghost town.
Boyne city while having the downtown very close to the munciple docks did not seen to have the 'places to go to' feel about it.
I did not see much within walking distance to the docks, there is a lot of 'town' there but nothing I found interesting.

I have been up and down Lake Charlevoix a few times and enjoyed the ride we have not stayed in either town.
You need to leave round lake and enjoy the lake check out the ironton ferry.

However Traverse city seemed to be pretty nice, if you can stay at the munciple docks in town there is a great bohemian district one block away.
This is one place I want to go to.

I also like Harbor Springs nice docks and an interesting town close by.
You know Leland harbor is under construction, it was pretty torn up and I'm not sure if we can get gas there this summer.

BTW there will be a Tiara meet in Charlevoix just after July 4th.

Stop over and we can talk about what i saw.
