Lake Lanier Boating Trial....Update

Benett was a first time offender, but on the same token, there were deaths. With that said, no matter what sentence the judge imposed, the lives of those taken would never be brought back. If I was a family member or friend of those that lost their life, I would feel justice was not served. But, If I was a friend of Beneet, and he was a good whole person that screwed up this once in his life, I too would feel bad for him, and the grief he would carry knowing he caused such deaths, but would also feel he got a huge break on his sentence.

This is a real tough call and can see both sides of this outcome.

I think a couple things took place here. One was a gerneral sense that things on Lake Lanier, especially at night have become out of control, a subject I have posted about here myself. Also this took place along with a record number of deaths the same year on Lanier due to bad operators. Over all I think everyone was fed up and want "something done". I personally feel this guy got off light, but I also believe LE on Lanier has failed the people as a whole. The consequences of no nav lights and BUI are really only a factor on holiday weekends, not every day.
 
this guys sentence should not have anything to do with other boaters or things being out of control on the lake.
Punishing the one guy you catch for the misdeeds of others would be nuts.
