I have heard some people with a trailer for winter storage launch with a TravelLift in the spring so the trailer never goes in the salt water. I am not sure if its worth it or not.

I guess it depend on the cost but if it is just seasonal I would be interested. Some yard will allow you to store the boat and trailer so it could be launched with a phone call before you arrive.

Are some folks making things up to worry about ? Just wash the thing off with a hose after launching. Or better yet, left outside, the rain will take care of that for you.

Sounds like an old boss of mine...would never drive his car in the rain.

About the only concern I would have is making sure I got some fresh water into the drums. Besides, letting the thing sit without heating up the brakes, tires, bearings etc. is probably more damaging.
Use the trailer. Wash it all off and hose down the wheels good. Drive it around. If you let it sit the brakes, bearings and seals will all suffer.

The trailer will only get used to launch and retrieve boat in spring and fall. Summer boat in a slip.

Trailer is for winter storage, and to pull boat out for maintenance. And since I am new I may not get a slip the first summer.

When I had my CC down here I rack stored and those folks did unload and reload with a travel lift and the trailer never saw the salt. Now that I have a boat in Florida that I keep in outdoor storage I am in and out with a trailer. After launching I do a quick spray down with a garden sprayer using salt away on the wheels and brakes and all steel parts. After reloading I take the trailer and boat to a car wash and give it a good cleaning.
Good luck
Niles
