I'm heading out for the boat show at Liberty Landing early Sat morning. It's my first time heading out that way. I'm leaving from Oceanside.

Any tips would be appreciated.
 
Rob, check my post in the other thread - do you have docking arrangements? As far as I know there's no room for transients during the show.
 
I just got back from an overnight at Liberty Landing. There will be no slips for transients due to the show. Perhaps you can dock at north cove on the manhattan side. Take the water taxi over to the marina.
Finding LL is easy, just look for the huge clock.
 
Thanks for the info so far. I did call ahead and they will have a slip for me on the other side of the marina from the show.
 
Hi Rob, watch the tides in and out of New York harbor, try to go early before the wind kicks up. You may prefer to go in/out Rockaway inlet if it is nasty offshore. We hit 8 to 10 footers ++ coming back from Liberty Landing one year, that trip was not fun at all, and glad we got into Rockaway ASAP. At five knots, the Rockaway Route likely adds about an hour to the trip vs going in/out Jones inlet.
 
I got 6 complimentry tickets this morning that I will not be able to use. Since it's to late to mail them we would have to meet up somewhere on Friday -
1. Penn Station around 7am or 3:30pm
2. Jersey City PATH station from 7:15am to 3pm
3. My office across the street from above - 499 Washington Blvd Jersey City
4. Newport Marina accross from my office - maybe I could leave them with the Dockmaster. (2 for her, 4 for you?)

Rob I may be able to help facilitate as a messenger if you are not in the city. Dave is near my Jersey office(525 Washington blvd) if he throws them in an inter office envelope and gives to the security guard they will get to me tomorrow, I can bring them home then and leave on your boat. Call my cell for more info.

Dave, where is the Newport Marina in relation to Liberty Landing? If it's within walking distance, you could try leaving 2 for me with the dockmaster. My cell number is in the email I sent you.

There may be light rail down to there, but I think Newport Marina is up in Weehawken, Liberty is down in Jersey City -- looks like a bit of a hike on the map.

You could take the light rail or run up to Newport marina with the boat, they should have room to tie off while you see the dockmaster.
 
UPDATE: We left yesterday morning at 8 for our first run West to Liberty Landing. From East Rockaway Inlet to Ambrose Channel we were fine. I was cruising ay 27-28 MPH. Ambrose started getting rough. As I was getting toward the Varazzano, I had to slow down to 10 MPH - it was very choppy going through there. I found the Liberty Landing channel no problem - just South of the Colgate Clock.

When I pulled up to the fuel dock waiting to get my slip assigned, the Searay display was at the same dock. I joked with one of the reps that I should unload my stuff over to the 48 Sundancer. He gave us comp tickets to the show. Then when we checked in with the dockmaster, he offered us free tickets to the show. So we were covered for tickets.

The show was good. We picked out 3 upgrades. In order: Formula 48 Yacht, Searay 48 Sundancer, and I liked the Cruisers 415. So if any of you guys have $800,000 you can spare, I'll place my order right away.

I was surprised by how litttle they had in the way of booths.

The run back was smooth till we got through the Narrows. Then we had some steep 3 footers and I slowed it down to 10MPH till about half way to the East Rockaway inlet. Each way took about 2 hours.
