SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Fire officials said 2,000 people were forced to evacuate a campground and resort area in Isleton Sunday afternoon.

The fire began about 2 p.m. near Brannan Island Road in the Delta Loop Recreational Area.

Fire crews are on the scene and said they may be able to gain control of the blaze shortly.

So far, there is no word on whether there are any injuries. The cause of the fire is not known.

We had some BIG boomers around here but not as many of those rockets that are so dangerous.

One of my doggies wouldn't eat and they both tried to sleep on my neck.

Bethel Island was pretty quiet. Lil Guy just snapped through the fireworks which were on the horizon. He didn't even hear the faint booms!

The fire was caused by a PG & E transformer blowing. When I left the boat yesterday, we had no power and having just returned from Mandeville, we also had flat batteries. Unloaded the refrigerator and hopefully the power will be back on soon. Hope everyone had a nice Independence Day! I saw Comfortably Numb out there, but before I could drop by for a visit, they had left (or I couldn't re-find them)

According to KCRA's 11PM news, the tranformer blew because of the fire. And the actual cause was believed to be fireworks.......

I'm sure glad that they were able to stop the fire before it reached a campground or other personal property. I guess quite a few trees were burnt though.

I am not sure its the same place but about 8-10 years ago they had a bad fire in that area. We were at the old Moores Riverboat and saw folks hauling out rv units from a camp area with the hoses and wires still connected and dragging behing their units as they pulled them away from the campground as the fire approached. We heard many propane tanks exploding and I think they lost a number of trailers in that fire. It was very windy that day and the fire just swept in very quickly.

That transformer blow-out knocked out power all over the island. The time was closer to 12:30 p.m. Spindrift Restaurant had to turn customers away and people couldn't buy gas at Spindrift Marina. By 2:00 p.m. the power was still out. My little dockside reefer had completely defrosted and I had to wipe it dry. Power was still out when I left the marina at 2:20 p.m.

We were with out power at Eddo's also. We went out cruising so it was not to much of an inconvience. We did stop in at RiverBoat for dinner at around 5:00 and they turned us around before we docked saying they were still out of power. But when we got back to Eddo's, the power was turned back on.

Good times were had by all anyway. This was our first time at Eddo's and it was very quiet, peaceful, and the staff very helpful and friendly. We will return in the future I'm sure.

Thanks for the feedback! Now I know to recommend them to others when appropriate.

AbsoLoot,

I lost my anchor during the fireworks and headed to back of the island in shallow water (reeds!) where it was a bit more secure. The boat I was with, Loosenup, was Gnarley - maybe next time we can say hello in person!

For what is worth, I took a small dinner party to the Lighthouse Restaurant last night and had a very nice meal. I will go back.

Good feedback Phil! Are their docks improved at all? I hate to go there by boat unless they have improved and reconfigured them.......

Flutter,

The docks suck - actually its a busy river with lots of wakes. I went by there about a month ago in my shiny new 27 that was for sale, and it was so bouncy that I was worried it might scrape the hull, so we went to Tower Park for dinner. I did have dinner there a couple of week later, by car, and it was great! I had salmon and it was way delicious!

If there is not a wind and the river not too busy, the docks are fine, it's just such a busy strech of river and the chop can be pretty bouncy.

Jim

Yup, you are right. The other problem is that the fingers are too short----even for my little 22 ft boat! If you tie up to a finger bow in, you can't get off the boat from the cockpit or swim platform! You have to get off from the bow. That is fine if you are in a bow rider or platform boat... Otherwise, if you tie up at a finger dock, stern in.

Lighthouse has a killer Philly Cheesesteak sandwich! It's as close to authentic Philly as I've found lately in these parts. I always go by car, though.
