Anyone use a MaryKate product called Liquid Rollers? It is supposed to make the bunks on the trailer slipperier so that the boat loads and unloads easier.

I just squirt cheap liquid dishwashing soap, usually from the dollar store.
 
I have been told that Pam cooking spray works well also. I have used liquid roller and it works. A little pricey as I remember.
 
Teflon spray ( Lube 1 . TriFlow, Dry Slide, etc. , works at least just as well (& probably the same thing as the MK LR) and is long lasting .

Just don't unhook the bow eye until in the water and ready to start.

The comment about not un-hooking till boat is in water - is that just for lighter boats? Mine is
a 5000 lb cuddy cabin type.

That's up to you, but you want at least a line on it, or someone IN it.
 
I use the store brand of furniture polish like Pledge. And heavy boats can roll off trailers as well as lighter boats. Don't ask me how I know this . . .
 
There was a discussion about that stuff some years back. I didn't mention it then but, I don't see any reason to make a make a boat dangerously slick. I've seen 10,000 lb Faralon boats roll off onto the ramp.(roller trailer) but the same danger.(and the owners kid was in the boat).
 
I used the liquid roller years ago when I was mostly launching and retrieving a 23 footer from some poor shallow ramps. It worked fine and I made a practice of not removing the bow line till the back half of the boat was in the water.

Then one day I was in a hurry and at a good steep ramp for a change. I started backing down and as the stern reached the water I saw the boat sliding off the trailer... I goosed it and was able to get into deep water before it dropped off the trailer. Scared the crap out of me but to this day the last thing I check is the bow line!

Most of the ramps I use now days are fine but if needed I would use something like liquid rollers, pledge, Pam etc. Just be careful and follow your checklist!
 
I use silicone spray. Seems to make the boat easier to launch and load. And the lines stay hooked until in the water.

The point being , as far as backing the trailer to the water , many people with bunk trailers and using slippery spray for the 1st time do not realize how much their bunks will act rather more like rollers to overcome friction sooner than previously expected. With rollers or bunks it can be "reezky bidniz" releasing the winch or other security line before it is fully safe for the boat to leave the trailer, ...no matter what the vessel size.
