Hello everyone.
I was cruising home on a 1998 4.3L V6 Mercruiser with Alpha 1 leg.
Suddently the engine over rev. and the boat dropped off plane. Next thing we've noticed is that the engine started to get hot. Shut it down and limped back on the kicker.
At home, I tried to flush it but notice that there was not water coming out of the exhaust and the engine got hot really quick.
So my merchanic told me either the upper gear is toasted or the engine coupling is gone. How can I be sure which is the problem.
PS: when I shift the control in Forward and spin the prop backward it's spinning the drive shaft but I cannot tell whether or not the main shaft is turning.
Please let me know what you think.
