Man made island proposed for LNG terminal

hi john,

saw that in snewsday the other day. pretty slick how they have used the north shore press to stay under the radar.

Who remembers during the mid 70's when they wanted to construct an offshore airport 3 miles off Long Beach? I was a kid back then and I remember there was alot of talk about it. Thankfully it never materialized!

Long Island is a ticking bomb, ready to implode. If people don't wake up and smell the coffee. Were in for some real bad times.
1. We shot ourselves once in the foot already on the Nuclear Plant in Shorem. It should have been open and operational supplying tons of enviromentaly freindly power without polution.
2. We should have a Wind Mill Farm being built by now.
3. Have multuiple power cables running from Conneticut to LI under the sound.
4. Broadwater's and Atlantic's offshore gas terminals being appproved and started being built.
5. Last but not least the Bridge from Oyster Bay to Connecticut should have been built years ago.

Just think, 75% of Suffolk County is woods still. Once all of that is filled up with residences and commercial property, where are they all going to get their energy needs from.

Great, lets just roll over and turn Long Island into Brooklyn and Queens. I'm going to fight tooth and nail to keep as much of that 75% wood and not be developed. Nuclear power on LI. We can't get off as it now on a good day, forget a nuclear accident. Windfarm, stupid idea. Cost too high return too little. Big eyesore. Power cables under the sound. Cool, let's dig it up a little more and wreck some more underwater habitat. Who needs lobsters and crabs anyway, not to mention the electromagnetic effects on plants and animals. LNG monstrosities parked off our shores. Maybe yes to that one if they can present a safe proposal with out disturbing too much ecology. But I'm leaning toward no. Bridge across the sound. See power cable, plus, I don't think we need any more people coming on this Island. Besides, if they were all good ideas and the people were behind it they would all be realities today. I don't mind paying higher taxes to offset the lack of development. If we just modernize the oil and coal burning power plants we already have, power output will go way up and pollution will go way down. I and it seems most other Long Islanders like Long Island just the way it is. If I want to live in the city, I'll go move to the city.

If you like it or not Nassau is 95% developped so there is not to much left to build. Suffolk on the other hand isn't and no matter what people want or think they want it will be built. It's happaing now. All your arguments sound great but its just the reason it will implode. Lets worry about a plant or an animal or some other thing thats a non human living item.

Here is a fine example of "lets worry about the poor trees and little animals."
The Oakdale Bohemia Merge is still not properly engineered. At least 1 and as many as 3 people a year die in that area on average, but god forbid we widen the road because then we will have to go into the perserve. So lets just keep letting three people die there a year.

Oh and since were all boaters look at our brothers down in florida, a little animal called a manatte is always on the fringe of closing down waterways and other people are trying to outlaw boating all together down in Fl because of enviromental impact.

Well I say all this bull**** is impacting my enviromental way of life, I want to live in my house and be able to afford it, I want to be able to drive my car and not be in traffic, I want be able to shop in convienent Large malls.

That being said, widen Sunrise past Patchouge, Build Cirro Mall, develop Calverton with a amusement park, race track and another Mall, put a Casino in the Hamptons. Lets build and make this even a better Long Island. Oh don't let me forget get rid of the HOV bull**** and build a eight lane each way super highway to replace the LIE.

Lets not forget about mass transit, everyone wantt to get to work in a clean speedy train but god forbid we need to build a train yard in your neighborhood to park these trains so there ready to take you to the city in the morning.

Obviously destination unknown is trying to raise our temperatures, but she is obviosuly not a long islander. So let her remain destination unknown, as long as her destination is far from our beautiful suburb!

You are thinking too much and being logical. Some people are not going to like you for that!!!

Hey destination, unhappy? I have one word for you. Move. Why not try Chicago, or Los Angeles, or San Francisco. All those places have everything you're looking for.

See I like it right here on Long Island, has everything I need, but as anything that grows and matures, it needs more resources, your not going to stop expansion and the increase in population, and both of these need an increase in energy and transportation means.

Take Fire Island for example a small group of people got Jetski's ban'd from withing a certain distance due to enviromental impact. What happans to all of us boaters when that same small group of people gets the federal govt from banning all boating from within a certain distance of Fire Island in the name of perserving what they have already. Not too far fetched.

All lot of federal parks are banning car traffic from most of the parks and the only way to get around is on a crowded natrual gas tour bus provided by them. A fine example of this is the Grand Canyon as well as large parts of Yellowstone Park.

With the mentality of not wanting to expand and try to keep evrything as in the past you can end up with what you wish.

When companies pull out of Long Island because of Taxes, Energy costs and the nations highest shipping costs you'll be able to get a whole 5 cents on the dollar for your current home value.

Just one simple scenario, take Motorola for example, they just bought Symbol and now they are going to lay off 3500 people, most likly all of the LI employees are in that. What does that mean to you and me. Roughly 1500 employees that own homes and will be jobless. Last I checked I don't think the will all be able to run out and get new jobs, so when you put an additional 1500 homes on the market where only 11000 homes are on sale, do the math. Increase available home sales by 1500 you will reduce teh avg home sale value by 15 -25%, if you dont believe it just ask a relastate agent.

Not good news.

But hay, keep stopping progress and expansion and one day it will really stop.

Looks like the Natural gas barge for Long island sound is getting fast tracked. Regardless of EPA's objections that it was given misleading and outdated info.
