Manahawkin Area?

A Friend of mine is renting a house down in Manahawkin this summer with a dock in the back yard. I am waiting for the address but it supposed to be not to far back in the canals there. We want to bring our 30ft there for a few days and maybe stay at beach haven yacht club as well.

My question is approaching this area. The charts show the channel at 9-10 feet in the ICW. Outside the channel it shows 1-2 feet. Does anyone know if there is a marked channel going to the canal area that is deeper? I know there are allot of boats back there just not marked on any charts I have seen.
 
The area down at the shore can be very interesting and local knowledge is a must.

For example we used to stay at a marina in Seaside Park that required you take a 90 degree turn to starboard as soon as you exit the marina and then firewall the throttles to get up on plane on a very short distance to be able to get over to the main channel. Reminds me of the The Pines in Fire Island. Same sort of issue.

And as Billy likes to say, WATCH OUT FOR THE GREEN HEADS! ;)
 
I live in Manahawkin on a canal. If you give me an address I can provide information; there are 2 sections of canals and both can be interesting. In a few weeks the local markers should be in that will be a big help. I have a 35' Chaparral and can get in and out OK with with my GPS if the markers are not in. I have been going in and out for about 15 years and I finally have it figured out; intially it was interesting to say the least
 
I will be going out in my boat tomorrow evening and will check if the markers are in. Selma Dr is the 1st lagoon off the bay the just south of the Manahawkin-LBI Bridge. The lagoon ends at Rt 72 itself. I will send a post tomorrow night.
 
I'm a bit South of there however the entire area is very tricky. Local knowledge helps however with the storms we had this Spring I am relearning Little Egg. I haven't touched bottom with the 40 but I did have problems with our small 22 bay boat. The mouth of the Tuckerton Creek has shoaled to about 3' at low tide last year it was 5 to 6' feet at low tide. Also be careful NJ ICW marker 86 took out a 33 Baja that was towed into our marina last night. All that is left of marker 86 is steel structure about 1' above the water at high tide. It is marked with a small red/white floating marker. The guy with the Baja beached the boat otherwise it would have sunk, Beaching is easy around here large portions of the back bay is only 1 to 2 feet deep. My wife and I just got back to the dock it was a beautiful night to cruise but the green heads were terrible this weekend.

Thanks guys. We are also looking at staying at Shelter Harbor for a few nights after we leave Manahawkin.

We also want to stay for a night or two near Pt. Pleasant but are unable to find a good enough location to the beach without packing a cab with all the beach toys/chairs.
 
I was out in the bay where you would enter to get to Salem.There are no local markers out so I would try to go in there at this time. Each time I go out I will check for the local markers so if you do not know the area it is not worth the risk
