http://www.app.com/article/20110511/NJNEWS/305110036/Three-rescued-from-Manasquan-Inlet-after-64-foot-boat-capsizes The Coast Guard rescued three people from the Manasquan Inlet early today after their 64-foot fishing boat capsized.

William Hill, 58, from Brick, Matthew Morris, 19, from Point Pleasant and William A. Lewis, 30, from Marshallberg, N.C. put out a distress call at 4:53 a.m. and were pulled aboard a Coast Guard boat, Petty Officer Crystalynn Kneen, Coast Guard Public Affairs spokeswoman said.
They were taken back to the station in Manasquan, where they received medical attention and were released, a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.
The crew, who were aboard the Atlantic Traveler, were unable to control the vessel after its hydraulic hose broke, and they lost their clutch and steering and began drifting toward the rocks, the spokeswoman said. The men had left port here, but it was unknown how long they were at sea before the boat capsized.
The men jumped into the water, which was calm at the time, she said.
They arrived back at the Coast Guard station at 6:27 a.m., the spokeswoman said.
The Coast Guard reports that the fishing boat sank after hitting rocks on the jetty
A decision is being made about how to raise the boat, authorities said.

Would their anchor windless have been hydraulic as well? Calm seas has me confused

It may have been a calm day but the tide in that inlet runs FAST!! Not a good inlet to loose power or steering control in. I came through there with my port tranny blown once. Wasn't scarey but it did keep your attention. Once in the fairway at the Brielle Yacht Basin it took some work by dockhands with long lines to wrestle the boat out of the current and into a slip.

That and Shark River inlet both have tremendous currents. I wouldn't want to be in anything short of normal running gear going through either.

Man, a few weeks on the rocks really does a job on a boat. Was that a steel hull?
