The Coast Guard rescued three people from the Manasquan Inlet early today after their 64-foot fishing boat capsized.
William Hill, 58, from Brick, Matthew Morris, 19, from Point Pleasant and William A. Lewis, 30, from Marshallberg, N.C. put out a distress call at 4:53 a.m. and were pulled aboard a Coast Guard boat, Petty Officer Crystalynn Kneen, Coast Guard Public Affairs spokeswoman said.
They were taken back to the station in Manasquan, where they received medical attention and were released, a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.
The crew, who were aboard the Atlantic Traveler, were unable to control the vessel after its hydraulic hose broke, and they lost their clutch and steering and began drifting toward the rocks, the spokeswoman said. The men had left port here, but it was unknown how long they were at sea before the boat capsized.
The men jumped into the water, which was calm at the time, she said.
They arrived back at the Coast Guard station at 6:27 a.m., the spokeswoman said.
