Defender has a nice special this week on Marvair reverse cycle self contained ACs but I can't find much info on the brand.

Marvair is based in GA but has sold their line of marine AC to dometic and nobody seems to know where these units are now manufactured. Defender doesn't list country of manufacture, I called dometic and was transfered to a voice mail... No call back

Anybody heard of marvair.

Under $1000 for a 16k btu is almost too good to be true... Unless made in communist china :(
 
Have not been impressed with Dometic stuff. Marineair left overs might be a great deal.
 
Airxcel, parent company, lists Cordele, GA as the Marvair marine manufacturing facility. In total they have 3 factories in the US but also list "other international markets" as sources for products.

Reading through their 10Q hard to tell what all they are involved in or where their products come from but, I will say this, they are financially pretty strong.

I have the exact opposite opinion on Dometic, I have had -0- issues with the products.

Bob, that info is probably from before dometic bought their marine business. I called marvair HQ in Cordelle ga and they told me they don't manufacture them anymore.

Dometic has become the Brunswick of sub systems... They own Sealand, cruisair, marine air, and many other brands... Hard to avoid them,
 
So who honors the warranty and how long will parts be available for the Marvair units if you choose to purchase Pascal?

I'd call Defender. tell them you are interested in the unit but need more info. If they really want to sell (not just take an order) they will find your answers.
 
I looked them up they are a big company, they make all kinds of Air equipment. I would not think they would knowing sell a bad product.
 
The warranty is now honored by Dometic. I ordered a 16k btu figuring that for $980 I didn't have much too loose. It s going to replace one of the two 16k units I have in the saloon of my hatt. Since the bad one sits right above the ER,running a wAter line is not a problem to convert to a compact unit. I has a bad compressor which woudl cost almost a much to replace, and the air handler is original to th boat afaik, ready to bite th dust.
 
I would be curious to know what you think of the unit and how it performs after you install it Pascal.
