Memorial weekend, Montauk or other?

Headed out from Westerly, RI on Saturday morning. Did not want to go to Block yet, thinking about Montauk or Greenport or other. Any RO's have any good destinations? Nightlife would be a plus, bars, dancing. No kids this trip, Woohoo.
Wanted a quick <30 nm trip.
 
Well, if you head to Greenport do me a favor and check out the Townsend Manor Inn Marina or Mitchell Park. Both are supposed to be good places to stay close to downtown. We're thinking about staying there for 3 nights later this summer and have never been.

Montauk is a nice stop but its not so convienent when it comes to downtown access, shopping and trips to the beach. I personnally like it because the marina is in a nice location with pool and square bar but the family was less than impressed last time we went....which, by the way, was when power went out in the entire north east....remember that? It was genset city at Montauk, quite a site everything pitch black accept all the boats running lights and TV's off the genny.

We're also stopping in West Hampton Beach for a few nights and never been there.

Hope you get some good recommendations. There's always Newport for you but that might be more than the 30nm limit.
 
We visit Mitchell's in Greenport a couple of times each summer because we have friends there and because it is a really nice municipal marina, located on Front Street, close to everything. On weekends, call for a reservation before you go because it gets busy. 631-477-2200 Ext 400.

Townsend's is also nice but somewhat smaller. It is located at the end of Sterling Basin behind the Inn, which has a nice restaurant and a pool. It is a one-half mile walk to the Front Street shopping area. Lots of people make Townsend a regular stop so reservations are a must, especially on weekends.

We've given up on Montauk after more than a few poor experiences threr over the years. There are just too many other really great places in Southern New England to visit.

Greenport all the way for Memorial Day. We stay at Mitchel Park. If you wanta pool, stay at Townsend. Memorial Day in Greenport has never been a let down yet. Food, fun, drinks and music.
