for the life of me i cant figure out why i'm not getting a spark when trying to fire up my 1988 mercruiser 3.0L (4 cyl in-line). The starter cranks fine - but the engine just wont fire up.
- i don't even get a spark out of the ignition coil (the 1 wire from the coil). i have replaced the coil and still no spark.
- i've checked the wiring and everything looks to be connected properly (at least to my novice eyes)
any ideas what i should check next? (FYI - i was able to get the motor to fire up about 2 months over the winter when i fixed my starter - about 3 weeks ago i accidentily reversed the polarity for about 10 seconds when connecting my battery (yeah - call me dumb) so i could lower my outdrive since i had also replaced the gimbal bearing in the outdrive. Could i have burned or damaged something in the starting system by doing that ???
i'm not sure what to check next??? any suggestions?
