Hi guys, can anyone tell me if my 1999 Regal 242 commodore with 5.0 ltr mercruiser has a fresh water or raw water cooling system. need to know for winterizing.
Does it have an antifreeze tank on each engine? If so, it is FWC. If not it is likely RWC.
RWC engines do not use antifreeze, just raw water thru the whole cooling system.
Look for a heat exchanger on the engine. Most likely a 4 to 6 inch diameter cylinder about 16-24 inches long. If you have one then the engine is fresh water cooled.
thanks for your replies. only one engine 5.0 lt petrol with thunderbolt ignition.i will check if there is a heat exchanger next weekend. First season in boating .big learning curve, any tips on winterizing engine and leg more than welcome.
