Hi everyone,
I'm getting a survey on a 38' Sea Ray Aft Cabin this week. The boat is in very good shape, 780 hours on original merc engines, not to bad. The generator is a merc generator by generac it has 1800 hrs. on it. The owner and the marina mechanic both state the gen set runs great. Does anyone have any experience running these and do they run for a good number of hours? I understand anything can go wrong at anytime, just asking advice.

Those Merc/Generac gensets are great. Prices for parts aren't so cheap but that is one great gen setup. Super quite and smooth. Nissan motor.

Check the Exhaust down elbow for decay. What year is it? Salt water usage?

I had a 5kw in a Sea Ray many moons ago. Loved it.

The boat has been used in fresh water all it's life and the genset is original 1989.

Check the down elbow, not sure how you do it but mention to the surveyor.

Friend with '91 boat just changed his out, brackish water usage. I think $400 for the parts, he did the labor.

I think time takes its toll on that part.
