I'm looking for input on the marinas on Middle River. I am currently in Havre de Grace but looking to move further down the bay to get closer to more destinations. From where i live in Pa, I would prefer the western shore so Middle River looks right. I don't need the pool, resteraunt, etc. Just looking for a nice CLEAN marina with personable staff. I would also prefer floating docks but that is not a deal breaker. I have a 27' power boat. Any input, especially from those of you that are currently docking there will be appreciated.
Thanks
Brian

We have a couple of friends at Parkside Marina, just off the Middle River on Frog Mortar Creek, one from Bucks County and the other from the Reading area. They both used to be at Skipjack Cove on the Sassafras River but moved a few years back. They love it there. We've been done there a couple of times to visit and it looks like a nice, clean place and quiet each time we were there. They are close to a number of popular places. Cruised with one of them from there for a weekend at Rock Hall this season. Easy cruise.

Check out chesapeake yachting center.its at the end of frog mortar creek

For floating docks, two marina's in Middle River come to mind - Parkside on Frog Mortar Creek and Porter's on Seneca Creek. I have no knowledge of either.

For customer service, and professional operation, I recommend Maryland Marina on Frog Mortar Creek. Having kept our boats there for 6 seasons now, I know firsthand what keeps me coming back:
• Competitive slip / storage rates
• Personable staff
• Maryland Clean Marina
• On-site boat store revivals West and Boaters World
• Storage options
• Clean restrooms, and shower facilities
• Launch Ramp
• Card access

Many boat owners come to Maryland Marina after experiencing poor customer service at other marinas and don't leave.

The Wild Duck Cafe is adjacent the marina property. New owners have taken over management and operation and are making improvemnts to service, menu and dining experience. We’ve been told the Tiki Bar is being renovated and live music will be gracing on the waterfront in 2009.

We have been at Parkside for the last three seasons and will be going back this summer for our fourth. When we were looking for a new home, we looked at just about every marina on Middle River and Seneca Creek but kept coming back to Parkside. There is grass for the dogs to run in not just a gravel parking lot. The people we have met there have been great. There is a restaurant on site during the summer-no pool but we don't stay at the pier long enough to use the pool. The marina is family run with the owners on site and the grounds are meticulaously maintained. It was also the most reasonably price at the time.

We're at Weavers Marine Service(Weaversmarineservice.com) on Back River. Not as much traffic, no speed limit, floating docks, fuel, good services, great restrooms, & very reasonable pricing. Try 410-686-4944; ask for Bill. Drive from Central PA is <2 hrs.

ChesBayCruiser,
I didn't realize you are at Maryland Marina. We were there on a friend's boat for a weekend this past season. Silverton 42C, "Dream Catcher". Unfortunately (or "fortunately" depending on your perspective) they just sold the boat. Sorry we missed you while there.

Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming. I hope to get down that way next weekend to check out the area.

I also have friends at Parkside and they love it. Low keyed, low thrills, just a nice restaurant with good food all day. Great area, we hang out in raft ups a few times a year not 1000 yards from Parksides dock...

Phoenix, I will be at the boat all day Sat. trying to get some more last minute things done. If you make it down to Parkside on Sat. stop by slip 16. The boat name is "Almost Home".

Thanks for all the feedback. Parkside is looking very attractive. Joe, i just may be down on Saturday. If i do, I will stop by. I also want to check out Weavers. Right now they look like my top 2. however that could change once I get down there to see those and the others in the area

I haven't rented a slip at weaver's but have had boat work done there and think the staff there are great. Floating docks basically brand new. The only downside I saw was they have a gravel parking lot that seems to track a lot of dust. Also right next door to a public park but I assume they don't have any crime issues.

I'm at Bowleys which doesn't sound right for what your looking for. What's the name of the marina (like around Sue Island area) that has a circular drive around the "clubhouse"? That seemed like a nice marina when we were looking but didn't have a ramp.

We're also at Weavers Marine and can recommend it... only 9 miles to Inner Harbor, but quiet and relaxed. Gravel parking lot is non-issue. Only concerns I have is sometimes skinny water (on blowout tides) and no diesel - gas only. BTW, I walk past "Dream Catcher" every day as it was purchased by Sam Weaver Jr, the owner of the marina...

Jim,
Yep, that's her. Our friends were very fortunate having sold it privately and quickly for very close to what the wanted to get for it. I can tell you that the 2nd stateroom is very comfortable!! ;)

We are in Middle River at Sunset Harbor Marina. While we are in the enclosed boatel, they also have wet slips. It is nothng fancy, just good people, great price, and fantastic mechanics. Didn't know for sure if we would like the boatel idea, but after 3 years, we would not have it any other way.

Middle River itself has a lot of places stay on the hook, and is a great "central location" to he rest of the upper bay.

Good Luck!

Brian,

We too have our boat at Sunset Harbour Marina. I agree 100% with Tom's posted above. This past season was our first with this Marina and I can honestly say we have spent more time on the bay in this one season than we have in the past four or five seasons.

That marina would be Baltimore Yacht Club (www.baltimoreyachtclub.org). A great yacht club with many amenities, except no boat ramp.

We are at Cutter Marine just up from Sunset. We've been there now for 3 1/2 seasons and really like it. They have a pool, but we don't use it much. There are fixed and floating docks. Gated area with mag card entry after hours. Picnic tables and grills; grassy areas for dogs; etc.

everyone,
thanks for your opinions. I was down last saturday for a while but need more time to see more marinas. Joe, I was at Parkside around 3:30 last Saturday but you must have left for the day. Too cold to be on a boat anyway.
