Middle River to Sassafras

I left my chart on the boat, and I'm trying to plan this weekends trip. Coming from a marina in essex, on the Middle River, across the bay and up to the Sassafras. Looking at my iphone chart, the route I plotted has me going quite a bit south, and coming across south of Poole's island. Anybody know if I should go that way, or should I be north of Poole's island? About two miles shorter if I go north, but I can't tell on my phone chart if there are any obstructions when taking that route.

You can safely navigate to the west of Poole's. I "tuck behind" Poole's for protection from southerlies quite frequently. There's an easy 6' or more there.
 
thanks, that's what I was hoping. So far the weather is looking pretty good, 10kt NW winds Saturday, 5-10 on Sunday, although with the price of gas, thinking about doing the thirty mile trip at about 5 mph. Actually no, but thought about it.
 
We're in Pasadena. We've got to "shake" down all the new systems on the boat for our 4th trip to the Bahamas next month. So we'll probably head to Fairlee this weekend to anchor for the night. The weather looks great, and that trip will cost me about 5-7 gallons at 17 knots.

I just double checked my chartplotter, and I've got tracks from the north back to Pasadena on the west side of Pooles. 7' is the lowest the charts show. You should be fine taking the "short cut".
 
alk, why are you headed to the Sassy this weekend? Pretty quiet there right now and even The Granary is closed until sometime next month.
 
Mike, are you at the Still Pond house this weekend?

Bought the boat from a Marina in Essex, docking at Duffy Creek, for at least May/June - hoping Avalon for July/August, but that my be overly optimistic. Trip went ok; albeit several hours delayed. I got to the marina in Essex at 9:30,hoping to launch by 10:00, and be fueled and on the bay by 11:00 - for an arrival around 1:00. They launched me at 2:00pm, busy day. When I fueled up at Bowley's, I have to admit I was getting a bit nervous, wind was ripping pretty good, and NWS was saying small craft advisory with gusts at 25 knots - I took the cut behind Pooole's, and then came across north of Worton; wind wasn't bad, bay was almost flat - never saw the water that color before, and my props were doubling as wood chippers, but other wise no major issues; just have to get back to Essex Sunday to pick up my car.

My ride home was on his boat over at Skipjack, used to be a nice break in the fence, and worn path between Duffy and Skipjack, but they went and fixed the fence over the winter. Then the other path, at the end of that little bridge, they dropped a pile of old docks in front of. Guess we'll be doing dinner at Granary instead of Signals this year.
 
Yeah, the water is about a brown as I've ever seen it. I'm guessing it's all the runoff from the recent rains. We hung around our dock until about 3pm doing some projects and letting the winds die a bit. Then we shot from the Patapsco to Rock Hall and Swan Creek. The Bay was whipped up a bit, but it ain't the Gulf Stream. We've had a nice anchor thus far and tested out the "new" dink engine and solar panel. We stopped for drinks at the sailboat that's normally right across the end of the creek for us at our home slip. It seems they had the same destination in mind. There's nothing better than making new boating friends!

Mike - we'll ing Still Pond sometime soon. We're testing systems out right now as we leave for our annual Bahamas trip at the end of this month. We'll either be up your way before or after that. We'll see if we can't meet up this year in person instead of you visiting my boat while I look at your house and then pass each other on the water and not even know it!
 
Kurt, LOL, absolutely! You know, there are other anchorages in the creek other than just inside the cut. I'll have to show you a couple next time so you can avoid the crowds near the old USCG station.

alk, we'll have to hook up as well. Let me know if/when you plan a visit to Still Pond. BTW, I think SJC blocked those "access points" because they think folks from Duffy's are using the SJC pool. While Steve at Signals may be disapointed that folks from Duffy's can't easily walk over to SJC, in MHO, no loss to you guys. I always thought that, while the food is good at Signals, the menu is way overpriced. What's a burger go for at Signals now, $8.50??? Shameful IMO.
 
Once I get the bowrider down, end of May, if it's like the past few summers, I'm guessing we will be over at still pond just about every other weekend.

That's funny about the pool, the only thing my wife likes better at Duffy Creek compared to Skipjack is the pool at Duffy. Signals is pretty lame, but a friend of mine keeps his boat over there, so I used to walk over a lot at night and meet his crew at the bar.
