I would like to have some advise on the best way to pick up a mooring at Angel Island for the night. How long of a line do I need?
Thanks

The main difficulty there is the current swirling around in Ayala Cove. There are a variety of ways to do it. I find using a Happy Hooker to be the easiest. This tool is available from many marine stores and BoatFix may carry them as well. It basically allows you to attach your line to a boathook like device, you then reach out to the mooring eye and the Happy Hooker threads the line thru the eye and allows you to pull the end back to you. Most people will pick up the forward mooring first and then back down to get the stern mooring. I would carry two 100 foot lines so that you can run the lines thru the eye(s) and back to the boat. This will allow you to adjust your position between the moorings and makes leaving much easier as you can just untie the end and pull it back to the boat with no need to approach the mooring balls again.

You can also refer to this thread for a lot more discussion:http://www.boatered.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=125934
