Mooring buoys

Thanks for the information Brian and all the others. I ordered a mooring line today that will have eyes spliced on each end of the line. The line is 25 feet long so with each eye attached to the cleats (I have two on the bow of my Silverton) it will be roughly 12 feet off the buoy. I also had a chafe guard put in the middle of the line so as it rubs on the buoy ring it will help the line last longer. As soon as I get to try it out I will let everyone know how it worked out. Thanks again all! PS.....I will be at Millers Marine for Historical Weekend if anyone else is there let me know. I will be there with the South Shore Cruising Club.

Planeguy, sounds like you are having a mooring line custom built. I like the description of it for these buoys. Where are you getting the line?

so Plane guy did you use the mooring ball. how did it go

There's another "mooring ball" thread on BE somewhere today. Pascal stated exactly what we've been taught to do and done successfully over the years: Run two lines to the mooring and then each back to a cleat on each side of the boat. One line only will chafe as the boat moves. Certainly grab it and secure it with only one line at first, but spent the extra few minutes adding the second line.
