Moriches inlet navigating?

We are considering westhampton beach club with some friends this summer.They are running inside from West Islip but i need to run outside because i draw 4'6"-can i get inside the inlet is there enough water on high tide and once inside it should be good to the club or town dock
 
From what I hear it is still not great after inlet in east cut. With that draft u may need to go to shinnecock and double back.
I hear it's west cut to inlet then east cut with waters low as 3 feet. Call sea tow for latest report.
 
I took the west and east cuts a few weeks ago when I went "inside" from Bluepoint to Eastport. The water level at low tide, when I went, was about 3' deep. At high tide you should be able to clear the inlet and the channel heading east using the east cut, but, as CurrentSea suggested, check with Sea Tow. They should be able to give you more detailed info. Hy
 
Any info about navigating Moriches???? I have a friend that is asking.

Also,
With my new boat (42" draw) do you think it is doable with this boat???

I went thru yesterday at dead low tide and did not see less than 6 feet under the boat. Both the east and west cuts have deep water, just stay within the markers.

That contradicts pretty much everything we were told this year. U took the new path that takes u around by moriches inlet ?

Could someone please post a chart marked with the current "channel"? According to the LNM buoys 17-23 have been removed. East of 24 Boat US say's there is 2.5 feet at low tide!

That's correct, when heading east, you proceed down the west cut and back up the east cut. The only place water gets a little skinny is when finally up the east cut & beginning to head east (buoy 24). I have been thru there at least 6 times this season without any problems. It is much deeper running this way than past the coast guard station.

Would love to see a picturre of the route. I have been though that area many times but never in and around the inlet. Always past the USCG station and the dog leg. Then the big arc a couple years back into Hearts(SP) cove. Last year it was cake going straight through.
 
Yes, last year was the best it had been in a long time. Very short-lived unfortunately!

Once you get to Buopy 24 is it a right turn running almost on a 90 degree heading to 25 26 27 and 28 buoy's as shown on the chart or do you have to run north east from 24 and do the big 1/2 circle? Can you advise further.

I ran east in May, as I said, from Bluepoint to Eastport using the west cut and the east cut. The path around is clearly marked by cans, but is not on any charts. Just follow the cans (stay away from the beach on your starboard) and you'll be fine. Once you get to 24, make a right and it's a straight run east all the way to 34. Just follow the chart and you'll be fine. I did the run east of 24 all the way past the Quogue Bridge two eeks ago; no problems, other than the no-wake zone and the constable sitting in his 16' boat watching. Follow the no-wake limit and all's good. Hy. PS The Coast Guard area is heavily shoaled and really closed to all but small boats. I've heard of larger boats going through at high tide, but I wouldn't recommend it. Sea Tow sits, waiting!
