My wife & I agreed that it's time to move up to a larger vessel. Our current Sea Ray 290 Sundancer has been great but I would like something more fishing friendly and a bit larger in the cabin - we feel like we're camping out when we go to sleep.

We've agreed that a late model boat in the 36-40 foot range would meet our needs. Went to the Atlantic City boat show a few weeks back and started to explore. Looked at Tiara, Rampage, Egg Harbor, Cabo (yikes!!), and Viking.

Express style boats offer large cabins down below and decent cockpits from which to fish. Express also seems to be more friendly for socializing from the helm. On the other hand, flybridge style boats offer better visability from up high, nice salons to hang in when we get stuck at a dock and decent sleeping accomodations.

I never operated a flybridge style boat. I plan to do drift fishing inshore and eventually head out to the canyons to go tuna fishing. We also enjoy cruising. I'm hoping that once my daughter finishes high school in 4 years that we'll be able to cruise south from NJ to FL during the winters and maybe even head across the gulf stream.

I'm curious to hear the opinins of experienced boaters - flybridge or express style??

TIA,
