Anyone have any knowledge of navigating the pass between napatree and Sandy Point in Watch Hill, RI?

Instead of heading all the way out to Sandy Point, I have transitted the cut several times and its pretty scary to see 2.5' of water come up on the depth finder. At the same time I see people flying through there at cruising speed.

Any information would be helpful.

We were there this weekend and I was anchored over near that side, Lots and lots of boats using the "new channel" I saw one red marker in the bay that they were running by.....
I have no idea what they were lining it up with but they seemed to have a plan. The water was clear enough this weekend where you could see the shallows pretty good but you cant count on that.

OK so I ran it again today at high(er) tide. Coming down out of the river, it would seem that the route goes somewhere to the west of the anchorage and to the east of the permenant channel marker, from there the five floating markers marked "CUT" stay off to the port side as you are headed out.

There was between 6 and 10 feet of water today and most of the smaller boats came in at speed and did not seem to slow for the anchorage.

Within 15 minutes of leaving the bay and entering Fishers Is Sound, we were socked in like you would not beleive, 50' to 75' at best. Needless to say, we re-entered from over at Sandy Point and up the channel.

If there really was no water there (which it appears at times, especially low time), why does someone take the time to deploy and maintain the five floating markers?
