Some of you may know that I have been restoring a 26' John Allmand over the last couple of years and things have drawn almost to a complete stop due to the new business I started last year. The project has been fun for my son and I but it is currently wrapped in plastic.
Well, we closed out our year end today and it has been a banner year. Better than I expected! I love working on the John Allmand but am ready to spend the little free time I now have on the water with the family instead fixing the fixer-upper.I found a 1978 26' Trojan in Pensecola Fl. And I am considering purchasing it. My Dad lives in Orange Beach Al and went to take a look at it. I think I am going to have a survey performed and may fly down to take a test drive.
However I have a few hesitations:
My son and I like to fish, wife does too but likes to lay out on the deck mostly.
Is there room to fish on this boat? My Allmand has more room on the rear and a large built-in fish box. I have thought I could place a 4' cooler in front of the ladder from the flybridge on the Trojan and make do.
The allmand has twin engines. This makes me and the wife feel better. Is it a big deal having only a single engine?
Can I trailer this boat? Main concern is height. The allmand has a flybridge and I can fold down the hardtop. The Trojan is 10' wide making it 6" wider than the Allmand. I already have a special permit for towing the Allmand so I think I am OK. It is height I am worried about.
Anyone here have or have had one? Any thoughts and/or opinions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee
