Anyone have any thoughts on Neshaminy Marina? We docked at Philly last year and are thinking a change this year. Essington seems to be in horrible condition and Tullytown seems a bit high compared to all the others.

Are you thinking about the State marina just north of the Neshaminy creek? Nice place, a lot of new docks, I believe they have a waiting list.

You could also try one of the marinas in the dredge harbor area in Delran NJ. Clarks Labding, Dredge Harbor or my home and favorite Riverside Marina.

Actually the State Marina was taken over by another company. They do have 3 slips open and it did look very clean & taken care of. Jersey side did look nice also, but Im trying to eliminate some driving.

The facilities in Essington are as you say, a dump - add to that the fact that you are sitting right under a runway, and it's not a great place to stay, which is to bad, because the location is great otherwise. Supposedly as part of the Chester 'casino-ization' they are putting in marina facilities, near the base of the Comm Barry Bridge, but I'm not sure if there has been any progress yet.

The Neshaminy facility was very well kept last time I was there ( 2003?), heading north from there is some pretty nice boating towards Trenton. On the PA side, I guess that's the only chocies, Neshaminy, Phila Marine Center, or Piers. The next stop going south is Delaware City, and Chesapeake City, both on the canal. I'm anxious to see what becomes of the projects in Chester.

I read an article in the local Daily Intelligencer over the weekend that Bensalem will be adding waterfront townhomes, condos, shops and a marina about a mile south of Neshaminy State Park. I don't think it'll be ready until like 2008, though. Another area was approved last month for luxury condos, resaurants, and another marina at the intersection of State and Street Rds.

Looks like that area may become a little more boater friendly in the next couple of years!

It's going to be at 2375 State Rd. in Bensalem:

I think I might follow through with Neshaminy. The only drawback is they have no gas pumps but right across at Curtains, they always have their pumps running. Plus others are around. [:-bouncy]

The marina is still owned by the state. There is a private management company leasing it for I think 50 years. The same company that purchased 3 seasons marina next door last winter, to build condos.

Rumors abound the curtins marina will not be reopening in the spring.

Izzy,

Neshaminy Marina is still owned by the State but Tom Holt has a long-term lease to operate the facility and they go under the name All Seasons Marina. Carl Swain who worked at Three Seasons manages the marina.

As part of the lease agreement there have been many changes to the marina. The primary ones being a travel lift has been installed, additional slips have been added and winter storage is now available. The entrance and some other low spots are due for dredging before season opening. A gas dock is in the plans now that Three Seasons is closed and their fuel dock is gone.

Marina is nice, clean and well run. Went through growing pains last two years, but that should be worked out now. There are bathrooms, but no other amenities. No restaurant or pool, no maintenance (although outside shops are allowed to do work there, and there are several good ones in the area).

Fees are being raised every season, but they are still low compared to the competition, under $60 foot plus metered electric and there is a very long season (maybe March 1 thru end of October).

Last year there was a waiting list, don't know about now.

I'm at Neshaminy. Was at 3 Seasons (right next door) until they closed. I was already on the waiting list for Neshaminy. so when they added slips I grabbed one.

It's a nice marina. Nothing fancy, but well maintained and very sheltered. Nice people also. Locked gates to each pier, electric, water, free pump out (just added last year). As other have stated they might add gas (if they can get the permits).

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm at Pier 14 slip 9 (right next to the do not enter sign).

One thing to watch for is the water depth at low tide for some of the inner slips. Some are really shallow.

Izzy,

Did you make the move to Neshaminy? I was talking with Carl last week. He said they are going to open the gas pumps that are on the creek (the Three Seasons Pumps). Didn't have a timeframe though.

I'll probably put in either this weekend or next.

I need to have some prop work done, I'm in Delran can anyone recommend a good shop? Also interested in a mobile mechanic that can come to my boat to do some work...thanks

I very highly recommend Atlantis Props in Mt. Laurel. They are a Prop Scan center and the owner, Tom, is a straight-up and honest guy. Plus, he knows his stuff. They will do a computer scan of your wheels for no charge and give you a detailed analysis of your wheels current performance, recommendations on what should be done to them and an estimate for the work.... all while you wait.
