new electric motors

I like it. Not sure about overall efficiency vs. a standard outdrive or, volvo ipod but when batteries get better this could be a game changer. Give it time. It would be interesting to see a comparison as a diesel electric for example.
 
I like it. My major concern is the cost of repair if I hit a submerged object such as a steel pipe just under the surface which is a real problem in Galveston Bay. DAMHIKT --- :mad:
With my outboard it may cost a couple hundred to repair the skeg and/or prop. But with this design I'm not sure how much damage it would sustain.
It would certainly be nice to run around in silence though.
 
You can talk about electric boats, but none of them will be fast or have any range. The fact that gassers at best get 2mpg should be the first clue of how much energy it takes to propel a boat. Even a diesel trawler requires a lot of energy with 5 or 6 mpg. Right now water taxi across the harbor at best.
