New Hatch Installation

I have a 88, 32 aft cabin with a 22" hatch on the forward deck. It is a plastic one and a couple of the ears that hold the hatch closed have been broken off. I think it is a standard Bomar hatch.
I'm considering replacing it with the same size aluminum frame hatch and would appreciate any advice if anyone has done this before.

I feel your pain, Ric, have the same problem on my 1980 2896 Mariner... Hope someone has had the same repair cause my cutout dimensions dont seem to match the available new ones out there...
 
have you tried Pompannete? They bought the Gray Company that made windows and hatches for many Carver boats. I know my '86 Riviera has Gray products. If you go to the Pompannete web site, tab Bomar/Gray you will likely find what you are looking for.

Bruce, what I really need is that 20" x 20" square honeycombed plastic lid for my hatch, and they dont seem to have that. Plus my cutout is also 20x20 and I dont see that available in an aftermarket Bomar/Pompanette hatch. I do see 19 15/16 so maybe thats what I need to go with and shim it...
 
I replaced all 4 hatches in my '82 3607AC about 6 yrs ago. No cutting was necessary (only drilling of new screw holes and sealing the old ones). Not sure if it's the same hatch as yours on the 32AC or not. When I get home I'll check on the P/N for you and you can look it up on the Bomar site. (I went with the black aluminum framed version that had a built in sliding sun shade for privacy and have had no issues)

While the hatch is out, I'd also suggest sealing the edge of the deck's wood coring with epoxy to ensure no moisture can get into the coring after the new hatch is installed.

I'll be waiting to see that part number also, as my 3 forward hatches all need replaced also.

Just checked my home files (no luck) - Those doc's are on the boat.
I do have a replacement hatch# that might help you search on the Bomar site until I have a chance to pull the original receipts. (Then I can also provide the complete assy #s for these and the 2 smaller hatches)
