Hi ... I just joined the group, after re-finding it! Too bad about losing the info and tips on the former site.

Anyways, I have looked a '99 1950 and a '97 2150 LSC to buy and both had the same problems. First, there was staining on the cuddy headliner in front of the helm area. Is there a problem with water intrusion?
Second, the bolts going into the engine cover had pulled out. When the cover was lifted, the hinges stayed put while the cover and attaching bolts rose up, pulling out of the plywood (?) base of the cover. Is this common?
I assume epoxy would correct this, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel without help.
Overall, I was very impressed with the design and quality of the boats and hope to own one someday.

Thanks,
Sid

Welcome aboard, Sid...

I have a 1950 LSC ('00), and have not had either of the problems above that you have described above. However, my situation is a little different from most because I store my boat in my garage when not in use.

On one or two occasions while out & caught in a rainstom, there has been a little bit of h20 coming in from around the seals of the window/topside. This hasn't created a problem for us rather than a nuisance as I just dry it up before I put her away. If I were to keep her outside, I am confident that it would be a similar problem to what you describe above.

I haven't had the problem with the engine hatch coming undone, yet (don't jinx me)... Sounds like the bolts on the cover, not on the fiberglass of the boat as you describe? I think if that's the case it would take a little investigation to see if the plywood of the hatch/cover is rotten before attempting a repair. If not, could be a simple fix with a thin steel plate on both sides of the plywood and use machine bolts/nuts instead of the standard wood screws. I am not sure how epoxy would hold to the wood, but might be worth a try.

You are looking at good boats, with great performance for the size. I have a friend with a Baja, and we "keep up" fairly well with him when going out together (although I know he's holding back)... Ours will run rb2@gr5t top speed about 55 in the right conditions, and cruises well around 35mph. Have easily been able to pull up skiers, tubes, wakeboards, & kneeboards.

Curious to see what asking price range the 2 boats you are looking at, as we also have ours up for sale rb2@gr5t $15.5k (nothing wrong with her, just have a serious itch for something in the 32'-26' range).

Best luck for whatever you decide!

Hi Steve...
Thanks for the input. The '99 1950 LSC went for a little over $8M, the '97 2150 LSC went for $8M, but had issues. I should have jumped on the 1950 LSC, but I didn't pull the trigger quick enough.
I'm glad to see the forum going again.

Fair seas,
Sid

Both of those price ranges are way below the blue book values - blue book on my boat is $14m-$20m depending on some variables... She is up for sale in the $15m-$16m range (obo).

Best of luck whichever direction you go with it!

My 2550 has the same stains in the headliner. It was a simple matter of pulling out the bottom rubber windsheild trim, pulling out each windsheild screw, one at a time, coating the screw with 3M 4200, re-installing the screws and re-installingf the trim. It was a 15 minute job. I did the same to the rubrail later on. Lots more screws and many ounces of 4200 but time well spent, she's dry as a bone now.
