Does anyone know of anybody giving away free tickets this year?

In the past I have always gotten free tickets from either Staten Island Yacht Sales or Sea Doo but this year I haven't gotten any invites. I'm hoping to go to the show this Saturday I hate to admit this but I'm not sure the show it worth paying for it really hasn't been that good in years.

I haven't gotten any offers of free tickets this year either. I guess they're scarce or non-existent. I may go tomorrow just because I need to be around some boats and other goodies while knowing I'm not in the market for anything. Our daughter and son-in-law are away on vacation, so I'm going to be going alone this year. Oh, well, April is only 3 months away. I'm looking forward to boating on Long Island Sound instead of Moriches Bay this year. That will be a new experience tied into our move from Medford (docked in Eastport) to New Rochelle. Our son was going to take over our boat because my neurosurgeon had originally vetoed any boating for me me - cervical fusion. He has since changed his mind and recommendations. I just have to try to avoid "bumpy boating," as he put it! Hy

One reason free tickets are becoming scarce is that they are not actually free. When you exhibit, you can get a supply of exhibitor tickets to hand out. If they are unused there is no cost. If they are used, the exhibitor is charged for them at a discount.

If your local dealer is open walk into the showroom and ask for tickets they might have some left but probably a slim chance at this point. Hy I had the same conversation with my Dr, they seem to think we are cowboys out there!

Last I went was the year we moved off the Island about 4 years ago.......and it sucked then. Unless things have changed.....I would think its not.

is it even worth going to?

As far as I'm concerned, NO, it's not.

Agree unless you have a specific need from a vendor who will be there, there is not much to see.

I went yesterday thought it was good. Lots of boats and plenty of vendors. Spent 4 hours there with no lines being it was Wednesday. Salesman were all talkative maybe because it was first day but I had a good time. Even had a gyro.

I go with my daughter every year. Good, bad, or indifferent, we make a day/evening of it by going out to dinner, etc.. My wife and son are joining us this year, so we are heading there tomorrow.

Went Thursday, mainly to speak with specific vendors. In and out in two and a half hours. Having watched it devolve over the years the upside is, in my opinion, it now at least no longer feels like a big show that's gotten depressingly smaller and fragmented - it just feels like a small show, if that makes any sense. It strikes me as what one of those smaller upstate boat shows might be like, albeit on a slightly bigger scale. Decent crowds for the middle of a Thursday afternoon but I didn't see anyone waiting to get on boats.

The only boat I wanted to get on out of pure interest in design innovation was the Tiara Q44, having just read the P&MY write-up. Yes, it's an $800K day boat so clearly a select market, but for what it is I found it to be very smartly done and worth checking out.

My favorite boat layout there was the Azimut 43 Atlantis. Having a Cruisers Yachts I thought I would like the layout of the 45 Cantus that was there. Both beautiful boats but liked the layout of the Azimut best. One thing I am noticing with the newer cruisers of all brands is they are separating the cabins with too many bulk heads. When you walk into the cabin they seem small with a separate master and separate aft cabin and 2 seperate bathrooms. Just seems closed in to me. The cabin on my boat has an open aft cabin into the mid cabin and is only 36 ft but like my cabin layout better than 43 and 45 ft boats. Differeent need for different people.

Went to the show today and I have to say I was impressed with the turnout there were a lot of people somewhat long lines to see the nicer boats but I always enjoy the show! I like to take the ferry and get in a winter boat ride even if it is only for a few minutes. While I didn't buy anything I also wasn't looking for anything so I guess I got what I was looking for just a pleasant afternoon!

Went today to. Crowded. Not impressed with the boats. A lot of an ikea feel to them. Cantius was nice but not for the Money. Regal 42sc was smaller than I thought. Searay 40fly is a debacle. The ladder is horrendous.

Went yesterday. Lines were nice and short to get on the boats.
I liked the Regal 42, Sea Ray 40 (minus the bridge), and the Formula 40.
Regal 42 felt like it had the best fit and finish (by a hair) of the 3, and the Volvo IPS drives are tempting, although maybe a little scary here on the shallow south shore. The walk through windshield on a boat of that size is great.
Sea Ray 40 looked weird. Didn't like it with the flybridge,(seemed like it was a design afterthought, appendage, especially with the ridiculous ladder) but they make the exact same boat minus the bridge, and with a retractable sunroof. Interior floorplan was excellent, and the big windows in the master were nice. Not a huge fan of V drives, but they are tried and true, and the Cummins have a good reputation.
Formula 40 is more traditional (older style) than the other two. But it also had the IPS drives, and it seemed like the most customizable of the 3. Still has the walkthrough windshield, and felt really sporty.
We enjoyed the day, followed by a nice dinner out in the city.

As a ips owner on the south shore there is no issue. This is my third season with them. You will do more damage if you hit bottom with v drives.

We went to patrcias in Brooklyn. I ate so much. I will be full for a week. Lol
